New Viking 44 Convertible
Viking 44 Convertible
Following the successful debut of the 44 Open at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show last fall, Viking has expanded the line with the addition of the 44 Convertible which features a luxurious two-stateroom yacht layout that meets the needs of bluewater tournament fisherman and cruising families alike. Designed and built with industry-leading technology, engineering, construction and accommodations of their larger vessels, the 44 Convertible features an identical running bottom as the 44 Open to provide the same high performance of a Viking express boat while offering an expansive salon and the striking accommodations of their legendary convertibles. The 44 Convertible’s sleek profile with a raked bow, sloping sheer and swept-back deckhouse with black-masked windshield features nearly six feet of freeboard to handle head sea with ease and throw down spray. Her wave-slicing entry flattens aft where deadrise provides lift and support while chines and strakes knock down spray and contribute to lift and stability. Twin 800 horsepower MAN common rail diesels are standard though optional 1,000 horsepower Volvo Penta D13 power provide a 38-plus knots top end and comfortable cruising speed of 33 knots.
The flybridge features Viking’s signature center console walk-around helm that offers the skipper 360-degree visibility and an unobstructed view of the cockpit action below. There’s plenty of seating room to port, starboard and forward of the helm. The flybridge overhang offers shade to those seated below in the cockpit mezzanine while also providing safe passage behind pedestal helm and companion seats. An optional fiberglass hardtop houses molded LED lights, overhead instrumentation and teaser reel compartments while a Costa Clear enclosure provides protection from the elements. Some popular flybridge options available include a Release teak helm pod, air conditioning, center rigger and six-rod rocket launcher.
Pass through the port side salon door into the climate-controlled salon and you’ll find an L-shaped lounge with ample storage beneath to starboard with a teak hi-lo table. Forward to port is a raised dinette and settee against a teak bulkhead with cabinetry and a 40-inch flat-screen television. The galley is two steps down and this space-saving split-level design offers a Corian countertop with two bar stools in the forward salon to increase seating and dining areas. The galley is equipped with many of the conveniences found on larger Viking models including teak cabinetry, Amtico floor, Corian countertops and recessed Corian sink plus a two-burner surface-mount stove, large-capacity deep-drawer under-counter style refrigerator and freezer and a microwave/convection oven.
The master stateroom to port via the roomy companionway features a queen-size walk-around bed with under bed drawer storage plus maple-lined stowage below the bed that’s easily accessible thanks to gas pistons. Other amenities include twin night tables, carpeting, maple-lined hanging locker and 28-inch flat-screen television. The private in-suite head includes a fiberglass shower, Amtico floor, teak vanity with Corian countertop and mirrored upper cabinets, linen storage and electric head. The forward guest stateroom includes a double berth and single berth in an over and under crossover arrangement plus a hanging locker. A second head and shower serves the guest stateroom and is accessed via the companionway. Features include Corian countertop, Amtico floor, linen storage and electric head. Luxurious teak available with either high gloss or satin finish abounds giving the entire interior a warm and inviting feel.
The 119-square-foot cockpit features a starboard side mezzanine with freezer storage under the lounge seating plus hinged access to additional storage areas. Forward to port there’s a tackle cabinet with drawers behind a push release door. Other cockpit standard equipment big game anglers crave includes flush rod holders, fresh and salt water wash down, transom live well, walk-through transom door with lift gate, step-box drink cooler and in-deck fish boxes and stowage well. Gaffs and other accessories store neatly under gunwale forward to starboard behind a push release door. The 44 Convertible is also engineered and designed for the installation of an optional Seakeeper SK 6 gyro stabilizer, which brings great stability to the vessel and elevates the overall comfort level.
An engineering showcase, the bright white engineroom of the 44 Convertible is easily accessed through the observation mezzanine and highlights Viking’s legendary attention to detail. A Delta-T engine room ventilation system, oil exchange system, Onan 13.5 kW E-QD (electronic quiet diesel) Series generator and engine room entrance package with digital tachometers, engine water temperature, engine oil pressure and engine start/stop switches are just some of the standard mechanical and electrical equipment.
