New Viking 58C
Viking 58 Convertible
Refusing to rest on its laurels, Viking recently introduced the second generation of one of their most successful convertibles. The new 58 Convertible features a three-stateroom, two-head layout and is successor to the legendary 1990’s edition which helped build the company into the dominant sportfishing yacht builder it is today. The largest vessel built by the New Gretna builder from 1991 to 2000, Viking sold 110 of the popular 58 Convertibles and now, 18 years later, Viking’s “Gen II” 58 Convertible is destined to become a dominant fixture in sportfishing circles. Ideal for the owner/operator who’s equally at home on the bridge as he is in the fighting chair or the hardcore tournament competitor who simply wants to turn the handle and leave the bridge duties to a hired captain, the 58 Convertible matches performance, engineering and interior accommodations with larger boats well into the 60-plus-foot range.
The flybridge features Viking’s signature walk-around center console helm and offers excellent visibility in all directions as well as plenty of room for installation of the latest navigation, information, communication, fish-finding and entertainment systems. Captain and companion pedestal seats are provided while guests have their choice of lounges that flank the console plus an aft-facing jump seat on the starboard side. Additional seating for two is also provided at the front of the helm console.
With a mezzanine cockpit measuring 165-square feet, Viking takes advantage of the company’s tournament-proven experience and has laid out the new 58 Convertible with an arsenal of fishing equipment and plenty of bait, tackle and equipment storage space. A laminated in-deck backing plate has the cockpit ready for a fighting chair, rocket launcher or table installation. There’s also a transom fish box/livewell and an in-deck starboard fish box plus an optional in-deck port live well is available. Additional features include fresh and raw water washdown, flush-mounted rod holders, gaff locker and a walk-through transom door with lift gate. Additionally, the 58 Convertible is designed and engineered for the installation of a Seakeeper gyro-stabilizer, which is easily accessible through the lazarette hatch. In addition to providing access to the engine room, the observation mezzanine features comfortable padded seating, a tackle cabinet with drawers plus freezer and cooler space. Air conditioning for the mezzanine area is also an available option.
The 58 Convertible’s interior provides the perfect mix of amenities for entertaining, relaxing or dining. Enter from the cockpit through the starboard side and you’ll immediately notice the interior’s spacious layout and a passageway that extends in a straight line from the deckhouse’s door all the way forward. Offset slightly to starboard, this wide passageway opens up the salon, galley and dining areas and maximizes interior space with comfortable accommodations and conveniences. The salon features an L-shaped lounge with stowage below and cocktail table plus a home theater with flat-screen HD TV and a premium stereo system.
The galley lies across from the starboard-side dinette and comfortably seats four adults while featuring engineered stone counters, Amtico flooring and a two-stool bar area. Under-counter Sub-Zero drawer-type refrigerator and freezer units plus high-gloss teak-faced cabinetry, a four-burner cooktop and a microwave/convection oven are just a few of the galley’s standard amenities. The master and forward staterooms each have queen-size berths and private access to their heads which include spacious fiberglass shower stalls and built-in molded seats. Crossover berths also are available in the forward cabin. The starboard stateroom features side-by-side berths with a large hanging locker. The washer and dryer in the companionway have a linen locker nearby.
Several engine packages from MAN and MTU are offered and hull number one is powered with a pair of the new MTU V10 2000 M96L engines rated at 1,600 HP each. With standard fuel capacity, anticipated top speed is 40-plus knots with a cruise of 35 knots with this power package. An Onan 21.5 kW E-QD (electronic quiet diesel) Series generator provides all the needed power when away from port.
The 58 Convertible will make her debut at the annual Viking Dealer Meeting and Sea Trial Event September 10-12, followed by her world premiere at the 2018 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show October 31-November 4. For further information contact the South Jersey Yacht Sales office.
