19th Annual Viking/Ocean Showdown

July 9-13, 2008

Ocean and Viking owners go head-to-head in the "War Offshore"

Perfect weather, a decent bite, and a real good story. Couple these ingredients with a little bit of drama and the usual camaraderie, and you have a pretty good summation of this year’s Viking-Ocean Showdown, the 19th in a series.
This year’s first fish day on Friday saw the Ocean team sprint out to a 249 point lead (Ocean = 1659.5 vs. Viking = 1211). The conditions offshore on both days were ideal and the fishing kept things interesting. During the two day tournament, 17 white marlin and 12 blue marlin were released while 24 tuna and 19 dolphin were brought to the scales.

The big story at the awards dinner was that of 11 year-old Meg Seaton, of the Nightwind, who won both the junior and lady angler categories. Meg contributed 100 points to Viking’s tally, which added up to 3765, besting Ocean’s final count of 2713.

Great weather, fun offshore action, great food and entertainment, are all hallmarks of another successful competition between these two outstanding sportfishing families.

28th ANNUAL SOUTH JERSEY
SHARK TOURNAMENT

TOURNAMENT FISHING NEWS

Gulf Stream Water Moving In.
Click the photo at left for larger view

As the accompanying satellite images show (courtesy of Roffs.com) we are enjoying an unusually high volume of clear, warm, Gulf Stream water moving westward into our canyons. In fact on June 13th, (that’s right - June 13th!) a resident charter boat at South Jersey Marina fished a piece of this water near the Spencer Canyon and got into whites, dolphin and tuna. There have also been other reports of blues, whites and bigeyes being caught there and also in the Wilmington. If this pattern continues, we could be in for some of the best offshore fishing we’ve seen in years - and at locations much closer than usual.

This could be the year for some outstanding tournament action! We hope you can join us! Here’s what’s coming up:
