John was born and raised in western Pennsylvania where he grew up on the banks of the Monongahela River. His father would take him to the river and the first word that John ever spoke was “boat.” His love of boats has been with him ever since. John’s summer months were spent on the water where he worked at Engle's Holiday Harbor during high school and college. Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Mathematics, he and his wife Kathy decided to explore Chesapeake Bay and there they found the home that fulfilled their dream - teaching during the school year and working summer months at marinas.
During his “Chesapeake summers” John worked as Assistant Dockmaster at Georgetown Yacht Basin. A few years later, a boater offered him the Dockmaster position at his newly acquired marina. John finished off his “career” at Great Oak Landing leaving after he was offered an administrative position that would require twelve months of his time. He also completed his Master’s in Education at the University of Delaware.
In 1984, John was contacted by Dick Weber, then-owner of South Jersey Marina and South Jersey Yacht Sales in Cape May, New Jersey, who was responsible for John moving from marina management to yacht sales where he never left. During his tenure, John has sold new Albemarle, Cabo, Jupiter, Ocean, Viking, Post and Yellowfin Yachts as well as brokerage and used boats from those manufacturers plus nearly every other brand of production sportfishing vessel ever made.
John takes pride in his sales commitment and follow-up and many of his current clients have purchased numerous boats from him over the years including several now on their 6th or 7th boat.
John lives in Cape May with his lovely wife of 48 years, Kathy. They have three grown children, five grandchildren and two dogs. Whether at work or play, John loves being on the water and enjoys fishing, crabbing and clamming. Away from the water he’s an avid skier, hunter and can also be found on a golf course when time allows.
